This class action was brought on behalf of business merchants who alleged that Visa or Mastercard violated the law because they set interchange fees on credit or debit card transactions from January 1, 2004, to January 25, 2019. Both Visa and Mastercard denied the allegations but agreed to this class action settlement to avoid the cost and litigation of a long court trial. As a result, they have agreed to reimburse businesses for the interchange fees incurred during those years. The settlement amount is $5.5 billion and businesses are getting reimbursed for approximately 1-2% of the fees incurred during that time frame. One of our former local businesses filed a claim for the time that they were conducting business in LZ and is due to receive almost $8,000!  The deadline for businesses to submit a claim is February 4, 2025. Even if their business isn't operating any longer they are still eligible to receive compensation.
