Job Description
  1. Position Identification:
    1. Position Title:Developmental Training (DT) Trainer
    2. Job Location:DT/Therapy Building
  2. Position Relationships:
    1. Reports to: DT Director
    2. Positions Directly Supervised:none
  3. The client is at the heart of all we do at Mt. St. Joseph (MSJ). The primary responsibility of ALL staff is to our clients. We must ensure that their care, needs, and safety are being met at all times.
  4. General Purpose of Position:
    1. To help ensure that the day training program runs smoothly, efficiently, and within all regulatory expectations.
    2. To follow the habilitation plan for each client and ensure that the individual’s day training needs are met.
  5. Essential Position Functions:
    1. Motivate and foster spiritual, moral,and physical development of clients
    2. Assist in the development of the written goals and objectives for clients
    3. Work with clients to help them achieve their goals and objectives
    4. Work in assigned DT room; room assignment may change daily
    5. Be consistent and accurate in documentation of the abilities of clients toward the attainment of their goals and objectives
    6. Be knowledgeable and compliant in protecting the confidentiality of clients according to HIPAA
    7. Provide sensory, music and recreational activities as necessary and available.
    8. Promptly communicate significant issues and noted changes in status of any client to DT Director or DT QIDP
    9. Responsible for the physical needs of clients including feeding and toileting
    10. Demonstrate ability to effectively intervene as necessary when a client acts out or otherwise demonstrates behaviors which could be harmful to self or others. This may at times require sufficient strength and the physical capability to assist in lifting and/or provide physical assistance
    11. Document on mal-adaptive behaviors and report on incidents
  6. Secondary Position Functions:
    1. Provide monitoring and assistance to clients in the lunchroom
    2. Attend on-going in-service training as provided
    3. Ensure compliance with regulatory entities
    4. Other duties as assigned
  7. Critical Knowledge, Skills, and Expertise Needed Specific to this Position:
    1. A high school degree or equivalent
    2. At least one year of experience working with persons with intellectual disabilities
    3. A valid Illinois driver’s license
    4. Must be able to speak, read, write and understand the predominant language of the clients (English)
    5. Must maintain a current CPR and First Aid certification and demonstrate ability to respond appropriately in an emergency
  8. Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
    1. Must be able to speak, hear, and see (with or without reasonable accommodations) to conduct the essential job functions for this position
    2. Must be able to get around within the facility safely (with or without reasonable accommodations) in order to complete the essential job functions for this position
    3. May occasionally be required to lift, push or pull equipment
    4. May occasionally be required to assist in non-mechanical lift, movement and/ or transportation of clients
    5. May be required to deal effectively with maladaptive behaviors
    6. May be required to handle hazardous materials/ substances in accordance with established policies and procedures (i.e. using universal precautions or precautions specific to hazard)
    7. May be required to operate facility vehicles including wheelchair lift and tie-downs
